June 24, 2021 (Virtual) – The Canadian Marine Shipping Risk Forum (CMSRF) hosted the webinar Managing Shipping Risk in Marine Protected Areas.

This webinar was part of a larger series of events and activities the CMSRF is undertaking to advance shipping risk knowledge and communication in Canada.
It explored topics related to the management and regulation of shipping activities in Canada’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).
Webinar Overview & Objectives
With over 60 participants from across Canada, this session featured a presentation on the new toolkit prepared by WWF-Canada, West Coast Environmental Law and East Coast Environmental Law, ‘Reducing Impacts from Shipping in Marine Protected Areas: A Toolkit for Canada’. Find out more here.
Also included in the webinar was a presentation from Transport Canada on the ‘Management and Regulation of Shipping Activities’ in Canada to help participants understand Transport Canada’s mandate and responsibilities for shipping safety.
Following the presentations, experts from WWF-Canada, West Coast Environmental Law, East Coast Environmental Law, Oceans North and Transport Canada held a panel discussion and webinar participants were able to ask questions.
