Applying Different Technologies to Shipping Risk: Data Collection and Application

About this webinar:

This webinar series investigates different ways technology is being applied to understand the marine environment, with a particular focus on the activity and impacts of vessels that are not using Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders. As a result of this knowledge sharing, community of practice members can apply this range of technologies in new ways to address information needs for a safer marine environment.

The Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS) is Canada’s home for ocean observing data, funded by the Marine Environmental Observing, Prediction and Response Network (MEOPAR), Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and the Tula Foundation. CIOOS is a collaboration with partners from coast to coast to coast bringing all of Canada’s ocean data under one online platform to make it easier for ocean data consumers to find, access, and reuse observations for improved place-based decision making.

About the presenters:

Jonathan Kellogg is a Science Communications Coordinator with the Hakai Institute and also a Scientist in Residence, responsible for developing and implementing hands-on curriculum for primary schools. He is also a Champion for the Predicted Ocean outcome as part of Canada’s contribution to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. He has a PhD in Oceanography from University of Washington.

Anne-Sophie Ste-Marie is the Interim Co-Director of the Saint Lawrence Global Observatory, the St Lawrence region for CIOOS.
