Vancouver Sun Opinion Piece: Canada is a maritime trading nation

Dr. Richard Wiefelspuett, Executive Director of Clear Seas Centre for Responsible Marine Shipping, reflects on World Maritime Day in op-ed published in the Vancouver Sun.

Today, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the marine shipping community are celebrating World Maritime Day.

This year’s theme — “Shipping: Indispensable to the World” — was chosen by the IMO “to focus on the critical link between shipping and the everyday lives of people all over the planet. For the vast majority, shipping is out of sight and out of mind. But this does a huge disservice to an industry that … keeps the people of the world fed, clothed, housed and entertained.”

Dr. Richard Wiefelspuett, Executive Director of Clear Seas Centre for Responsible Marine Shipping, discusses how this theme is particularly relevant for Canadians in an op-ed Vancouver Sun, “Canada is a Maritime Trading Nation”.
