Shipping and Ocean Conservation Integration (SOC-I) Program
Supporting First Nations communities in exploring the intersection between marine shipping and ocean conservation
Land Acknowledgement
Clear Seas’ head office is located on the unceded and shared territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations in Vancouver, BC. Our work takes place across Canada on the treatied and unceded lands and waters of First Nations and Inuit peoples.
About this program
The Shipping and Ocean Conservation Integration (SOC-I) program is an emerging initiative to support First Nations communities in exploring the intersection between marine shipping and ocean conservation. The project will provide an opportunity for First Nations voices to be heard while simultaneously cultivating a relevant research environment for these communities.
The SOC-I program will support meaningful relationship development and provide communities with education on and access to Clear Sea’s Mapping Marine Traffic (MMT) platform to build capacity for research projects that uphold and honour the Indigenous worldview and values. Through this work, we will host six workshops engaging First Nations communities to support internal capacity development and build a shared understanding of current landscape.
