Our approach
Clear Seas’ research program has evolved to be diverse in geographic reach, subject matter, and participant involvement. Find out how we decide on topics, who is involved in our research and how our research is conducted.
Research Topics
Research topics are gleaned from discussions with:
- Indigenous communities
- Industry
- Government
- Academics
- International and national news sources
- Networks of Research Advisory Committee and Board of Directors members
The topics are ranked by priority, relevance, and uniqueness and reviewed and discussed by the Research Advisory Committee before being referred to the Board of Directors for approval.
Some of these research topics are addressed internally by Clear Seas’ research team whereas others require external expertise or the establishment of a multidisciplinary partnership approach with academic institutions and others.
Research Advisory Committee
Our Research Advisory Committee comprises individuals including Indigenous, academics, and maritime industry from different regions across North America. Drawing on their unique experiences and perspectives, RAC members provide strategic advice to support Clear Seas in achieving an impactful research portfolio for better information on key marine shipping issues.
