Donate to Support Indigenous Programs

Clear Seas’ Indigenous Programs deepen relationships with Indigenous peoples and communities through research and career pathways to advance Indigenous participation in the maritime industry and wider blue economy. Indigenous Programs are supported by industry donations and matching government funding.

Our Indigenous Programs

The Indigenous Marine Career Advancement Program (IMCAP) creates pathways for Indigenous peoples to enter careers in the maritime industry that align with their goals and their communities’ needs. This program is dedicated to supporting First Nations, Métis, and Inuit candidates as they gain specialized skills and certifications needed for maritime roles on water or on land. These roles range from vessel operation, shipbuilding, and ship repair to marine ecology, tourism, and vital community guardian positions that help protect and sustain Indigenous lands and waters. Your contributions help provide culturally relevant training and resources, ensuring candidates are equipped for success while maintaining a connection to their communities and traditions.

The Indigenous Internship Program supports emerging Indigenous professionals as they lead community-driven, marine-related research projects. By focusing on Indigenous knowledge systems and priorities, this program provides financial stability through a monthly stipend, while also offering mentorship and networking opportunities guided by Clear Seas staff. Project-related costs are fully covered, enabling participants to concentrate on contributing to their communities and the broader maritime sector.

Internship research projects have included topics from canoe racing (top) to clam gardens (bottom). Clear Seas has supported 22 interns conducting projects across Canada since 2021.

Program Outcomes

Candidates received training in ship repair (top) and marine basic safety (bottom). Clear Seas has welcomed 29 participants from BC and Atlantic Canada into the program.

Your support directly strengthens First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities by addressing critical employment gaps, enhancing capacity, and fostering sustainable careers in the marine industry while advancing reconciliation and principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Guided by Indigenous knowledge, values, and voices, our programs are rooted in respect and understanding. Clear Seas collaborates with Indigenous communities across Canada, ensuring that all research and training initiatives reflect their priorities and are conducted in a culturally safe and inclusive manner.

Together, we can create transformative opportunities for Indigenous peoples to be leaders within the marine sector.
