La r\u00e9colte saisonni\u00e8re et les autres liens c\u00e9r\u00e9moniels avec la terre et l&#8217;eau sont particuli\u00e8rement importants pour la nation.<sup data-fn=\"7b25e066-9395-413f-8a42-08997897aabd\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#7b25e066-9395-413f-8a42-08997897aabd\" id=\"7b25e066-9395-413f-8a42-08997897aabd-link\">6<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les eaux traditionnelles de la Premi\u00e8re nation Gitga&#8217;at abritent la plus forte densit\u00e9 de baleines \u00e0 bosse sur la c\u00f4te nord de la Colombie-Britannique.<sup data-fn=\"3ef4d2ff-00e7-4516-8218-50093dc901e1\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#3ef4d2ff-00e7-4516-8218-50093dc901e1\" id=\"3ef4d2ff-00e7-4516-8218-50093dc901e1-link\">7<\/a><\/sup> Lorsque les rorquals \u00e0 bosse se trouvent dans ces eaux, ils se nourrissent \u00e0 l&#8217;aide de filets \u00e0 bulles et r\u00e9p\u00e8tent leurs chants avant leur long voyage de migration vers le sud.<sup data-fn=\"d772e76f-733f-489c-8ed6-3d45732c8a41\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#d772e76f-733f-489c-8ed6-3d45732c8a41\" id=\"d772e76f-733f-489c-8ed6-3d45732c8a41-link\">8<\/a><\/sup> En tant que gardienne de la terre et de l&#8217;eau, la Premi\u00e8re nation Gitga&#8217;at a d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 des efforts consid\u00e9rables pour prot\u00e9ger les baleines \u00e0 bosse dans leurs eaux traditionnelles par le biais d&#8217;initiatives de recherche et de conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Premi\u00e8re nation Gitga&#8217;at a lanc\u00e9 plusieurs programmes pour aider \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger son environnement, tels que des initiatives de recherche collaborative et des programmes de surveillance environnementale dirig\u00e9s par des autochtones.<sup data-fn=\"f237fe8a-0614-4fd4-a12a-d205e6bc7b40\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#f237fe8a-0614-4fd4-a12a-d205e6bc7b40\" id=\"f237fe8a-0614-4fd4-a12a-d205e6bc7b40-link\">9<\/a><\/sup> Le projet SWAG (Ships Whales and Acoustics in Gitga&#8217;at Territory) aide \u00e0 \u00e9quiper la Premi\u00e8re nation Gitga&#8217;at pour qu&#8217;elle puisse surveiller le trafic maritime et prendre des d\u00e9cisions efficaces concernant l&#8217;intendance de ses eaux traditionnelles.<sup data-fn=\"bf9476a8-6a3f-4298-a7d9-4f7cdddb7e7d\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#bf9476a8-6a3f-4298-a7d9-4f7cdddb7e7d\" id=\"bf9476a8-6a3f-4298-a7d9-4f7cdddb7e7d-link\">10<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans le cadre du projet SWAG, des hydrophones sont d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s dans les eaux autour de Txalgiuw (Hartley Bay) pour d\u00e9tecter, identifier et suivre les baleines et les navires dans un rayon de 200 km.<sup data-fn=\"91395583-df82-4b0d-93d9-069464110638\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#91395583-df82-4b0d-93d9-069464110638\" id=\"91395583-df82-4b0d-93d9-069464110638-link\">11<\/a><\/sup> Les donn\u00e9es recueillies par les hydrophones sont utilis\u00e9es pour comprendre comment l&#8217;acoustique interf\u00e8re avec la communication, l&#8217;alimentation et la socialisation des mammif\u00e8res marins.<sup data-fn=\"6386ce4b-00db-42f3-b8f2-2cdbcc491682\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#6386ce4b-00db-42f3-b8f2-2cdbcc491682\" id=\"6386ce4b-00db-42f3-b8f2-2cdbcc491682-link\">12<\/a><\/sup> L&#8217;objectif du projet SWAG est d&#8217;utiliser ces r\u00e9sultats pour sugg\u00e9rer diff\u00e9rentes pratiques de trafic maritime, <a href=\"https:\/\/clearseas.org\/fr\/insights\/baleines-noires-de-latlantique-nord-en-peril\/\">telles que des itin\u00e9raires alternatifs et des ralentissements<\/a>, afin de r\u00e9duire les impacts du transport maritime sur l&#8217;habitat critique des baleines \u00e0 bosse dans le territoire de la Premi\u00e8re Nation Gitga&#8217;at.<sup data-fn=\"d3f63526-6efb-4bab-ae64-bf6e88f90432\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#d3f63526-6efb-4bab-ae64-bf6e88f90432\" id=\"d3f63526-6efb-4bab-ae64-bf6e88f90432-link\">13<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bien que la population de baleines \u00e0 bosse ait augment\u00e9 sur le territoire de la Premi\u00e8re Nation Gitga&#8217;at, leur croissance continue est menac\u00e9e par l&#8217;activit\u00e9 de navigation commerciale.<sup data-fn=\"3623cdee-3053-40fe-91f9-954d9640e2f2\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#3623cdee-3053-40fe-91f9-954d9640e2f2\" id=\"3623cdee-3053-40fe-91f9-954d9640e2f2-link\">14<\/a><\/sup> Des mesures de r\u00e9duction de la vitesse et la reprogrammation du transit en pr\u00e9sence de baleines \u00e0 bosse peuvent \u00eatre utiles pour limiter les risques de collision avec les navires dans la r\u00e9gion.<sup data-fn=\"6aa53dc9-35ca-453a-9e99-148250bbb92c\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#6aa53dc9-35ca-453a-9e99-148250bbb92c\" id=\"6aa53dc9-35ca-453a-9e99-148250bbb92c-link\">15<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Des partenariats suppl\u00e9mentaires avec les nations locales pourraient permettre aux savoirs traditionnels et \u00e0 la science occidentale de collaborer et d&#8217;apprendre les uns des autres afin de mieux prot\u00e9ger les baleines \u00e0 bosse sur la c\u00f4te nord de la Colombie-Britannique.
