Canadian Steamship Lines self-unloader heads for recycling in Turkey

Canada Steamship Lines reports that the self-unloading bulk carrier Spirit of Shpongle, formerly known as Atlantic Erie, left the Port of Montreal for the last time, November 4, bound for an eco-friendly recycling yard in Turkey.

The dismantling of the 31-year-old vessel is part of CSL’s fleet optimization and capacity management programs that introduced six new state-of-the art Trillium Class vessels to the Canadian fleet and retired five older, less efficient ships, including MV Atlantic Erie.
